I’m looking for a solid processor recommendation for today. Since I haven’t checked before, I thought about asking. Your current setup is the FX 6300, and if you buy it used, you’d likely spend around 60€.

You want to know its purpose. A CPU processes data and instructions, making it essential for running applications and managing system tasks.

I might be able to trade you my Athlon CPU from 2010—it'd really help out.

Your price point of 60 Euros (68 USD as of 2/22/2022) seems modest compared to any CPU upgrade over the FX6300. However, I’ll share some insights: a Ryzen 3 3200G costs around 130 dollars and offers 4 cores with integrated Radeon Vega 8 graphics—decent for an iGPU when paired with dual-channel memory at 2933 MHz or higher. For best results, use a B450 motherboard and its included cooler; it handles decent overclocking. If you already have a dedicated GPU, the Ryzen 3 3100 is faster with Zen2 cores and works well in single or dual channels. Stick to 2933 MHz memory or higher if possible, and consider the budget-friendly dimms on the green PCB for savings. A B550 motherboard is more common now, but an A520 chipset is ideal unless you’re overclocking. The 3100 CPUs are around 180 dollars each but lack integrated graphics, so keep that in mind. Ask questions if anything isn’t clear.

It was released in 2012, so it's an older model. What draws you to it might be its unique design or the performance it offers for its time.

It’s the main issue I face is upgrading to a Ryzen CPU would require a new motherboard since the FX6300 only supports AM4 sockets and Ryzen uses AM4. Also, why must the RAM be 2933 MHz? What happens if you use less? For the motherboards, I’m considering the ASUS A320M-K or Gigabyte GA-A32M-H because I found good deals on them.

The Ryzen CPU features fast RAM due to its design, which enhances communication between cores. Slower RAM limits overall performance.
