I'm searching for a router offering strong coverage, suitable for a medium home, and featuring a USB 3.0 port for connecting an external SSD. Look for models similar to or surpassing the Asus RT-AC86U.

What connection speeds are you currently using? Which devices and equipment are already connected? What makes and models are you working with? If you own the RT-AC86U, what features do you feel it needs? Are your surroundings built from wood/plaster or concrete/brick?

1. Setup includes 300 down connections and 10 up links.
2. An Arris TM1602A MTA modem from Spectrum is used. Two PCs and a printer are hardwired, with around 7-10 wireless devices connected. Some gaming and mostly streaming activity.
3. I believe the signal range is decreasing. I also need to check if the router might be causing problems.
4. The space has wood and drywall walls in a medium-sized apartment.

The RT-AC86U performs well. Have you adjusted the WiFi configurations? What options are available for each band? You might be experiencing interference from nearby networks. Would you share a wireless scan with WiFi Analyzer covering both 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels?

WiFi in these buildings is really poor due to the crowded frequency space. Using 2.4 GHz often leads to interference, while 5 GHz might offer a clearer signal.

I moved to a house with one-story construction, making it taller than it looks. I restored my router to the factory settings and reconfigured the Wi-Fi, but the issue persists. The alternative router remains functional. I’m considering purchasing the Asus RT-AX3000.

The image indicates you're not linked to the 5GHz network. Would you like to see the 2.4GHz details instead? Also, could you confirm if your router's settings are currently active?

That would be correct. My PC is not wireless, it is hardwired.

All my wireless gadgets—phones, work computer, TV, and the PS4—are linked to 5G. The problem appears when devices are in separate rooms. The farthest device, the TV, is roughly 25 feet through two walls (drywall and wood). Her work computer, used only once a week, sits about 20 feet away without any walls between it and the network. These two seem to disconnect from the signal occasionally in the afternoon. Noticing my wife works from home once a week makes it worse. The disruption is brief but bothersome. I just got a Spectrum modem, hoping it’s the cause, but I’m still checking my router first.
