Hey there, I've got an i5 4590, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB RAM, and a 450W PSU. I'm playing Rianbow Six Siege at 1080p with all settings low and textures off. Usually I hit 60-90 FPS, but it drops below my 75Hz refresh rate, which is frustrating. I think the PSU might be the issue. My friend has the same specs but uses an i5 6400, which isn't much better than mine, yet he runs at high settings in 1080p and still gets good frames. The site says I should see well over 60 on medium. Have the update changed anything significant? Should I upgrade my CPU or GPU?

the PSU is fine, your system simply is not fast enough for much more FPS or higher settings, even a small CPU upgrade could make a big difference here but if you really want to have a huge boost you would want to upgrade both CPU and GPU but i would give the GPU priority.

Considering the options, it might make sense to upgrade to an i5 4690K or simply improve your motherboard, RAM, and CPU. Switching to an R9 390X GPU could also boost performance.

Upgrading to the 4690K would be beneficial, and increasing its speed would provide even greater gains. Regarding the GPU, the R9 390X performs similarly to a 1060 but also functions as a room heater. You'll see a noticeable improvement in performance.

It’s worth considering an upgrade. I intend to modify it myself, though I’m unsure if it’s possible on this board. I can significantly increase the i5 4590’s speed to 3.7GHz, and the motherboard is a Gigabyte H97 gaming model.

The cost of the 390x model isn't something you can change right now. Are you curious about its value?

try increasing the speed of my existing CPU and I'm getting the 390x for 300AUD

Overclocking refers to running a processor at a higher base frequency than its standard setting.

The increased speed comes from a subtle CPU tweak that the motherboard can manage. Boards built for overclocking offer stronger power delivery to push the processor past standard turbo limits. Intel’s overclocking kits begin with models labeled Z or X. That should clarify things.

I’m using an R9 390 that runs around 75–80 fps on both standard and recommended settings. I’m unsure which GPU I actually have. I’m thinking about sticking with NVIDIA since switching between their drivers causes many issues, and they seem more stable. I also noticed NVIDIA GPUs tend to run smoother with the right drivers. I once upgraded to a 1050TI but kept my R9 390 for its better performance and higher frame rates. I have a 750-watt PSU, which was included with the rest of the setup.
