Hey there! I switched from a 5700XT to an RTX 5070 and am now considering a CPU upgrade. I mainly play games at 1440p. My current setup includes a B450 Tomahawk Max Ryzen 5 3600X, 32 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, a 750 watt PSU, and the 5700X3D is getting pricier each day. I’m weighing whether to use the AM4 socket with the 5700X3D (around $250 on Amazon) or move to the AM5 socket and get a microcenter AMD bundle like the 7600X3D for $399. Also, will playing at 1440p really boost my performance noticeably?

It performs better in most 1440p titles, and the AM5 connector offers long-term compatibility.

You purchase AM4 since it's affordable and available. If not, you won't be able to get it.

Choosing am5 offers a more advantageous deal compared to the 5700x3d, especially given the minimal price gap between them.

Investing in AM5 when you could fully utilize your existing platform for solid performance is not ideal. The 5700X3D may slightly restrict the 5070 @ 1440p, but this configuration will remain viable for several years, giving time for an AM6 release. By then, you'll likely need to redesign your setup. If you decide to purchase this CPU, act quickly. You might discover better offers on AliExpress around $200. Otherwise, consider a used 5800X3D, though it could be more challenging to secure. The decision ultimately hinges on your specific requirements. Certain CPUs may outperform others on Zen 4/5 compared to Zen 3 X3D when handling CPU-intensive tasks. What games are you interested in?

I'm currently running demanding CPU and GPU games at high settings. I'm aiming for 120fps with medium to high performance in titles like Hell Divers, Elden Ring (FPS unlocked), and Cyberpunk Unreal Engine 5. I've been looking for used 3D CPUs but they're tough to locate. If I can find something under $220, I'll go all in. It looks like a reasonable deal to boost my setup.

This package offers a solid combination of CPU, motherboard, and RAM for a reasonable price. The 7600X3D performs better than the 5700X3D and significantly outpaces the 3600X. Given the likelihood of Zen 6 moving to AM5, you might eventually be able to upgrade to something like the 11800X3D. While predictions about future performance are often uncertain, reports suggest Zen 6 could be a major leap—around 15% faster than the 9800X3D, which would translate to roughly a 40% improvement over the 7600X3D in games. This could provide a noticeable advantage in a few years without requiring a new platform.

Only references exist indicating Cyberpunk runs under 100 fps at high/ultra 1440p using the 5070. For GPU-intensive titles, a more powerful GPU is necessary.
