You could opt for a VPN service directly, bypassing the need to invest in a VPS.

Consider setting up OpenVPN on the VPS, generating a certificate, and then connecting from your PC.

It wouldn't be effective to rely on the server as a web proxy since your PC would then depend on the server's availability.
