I occasionally stream on Twitch and record in 720p to ensure accessibility for viewers with poor connections. For YouTube highlights, the video quality may appear low if saved directly from Twitch. You might want to adjust the export settings or use a higher bitrate when saving highlights.

You can choose not to store the original video during playback. (For example, when streaming, encoding happens and the file is sent to Twitch servers along with being saved locally.)

You're likely right. Obs should have an option to save gameplay as a capture or stream it.

There might be a solution. I'm not sure what to do next.

An alternative method involves streaming with OBS and recording using NVIDIA Shadow Play.

Yeah thats one way but the thing is that i will probably forget to start it and then i will loose good footage.. if theres a way for me to just press "start streaming" and it will stream and save on my harddrive that would be better.

Open OBS Studio and tap the 'Settings' icon located at the bottom right. In the General section (the standard view it launches), ensure the checkbox labeled 'Automatically record when streaming' is selected. Position it near the fifth choice under 'Language' and 'Theme'. Next, navigate to the 'Output' tab within the Settings window. When output mode is set to 'Simple', you'll notice the 'Recording' field and the 'Recording Path' option. Select a directory for your recordings, such as a secondary SSD. If output mode is 'Advanced', simply click the 'Recording' tab to adjust the path and format. You also have the flexibility to use a different encoder than the one used for streaming (stream typically uses CPU encoding, while recording may use GPU encoding) or to adjust the file resolution during rescaling—though you can't convert between 720p for streaming and 1080p for recording, at least based on current understanding.
