I plan to upgrade my PC in about five weeks and am considering swapping my 6500xt for a 6800. My current CPU is an i5-11400f, and I’m curious how much faster the i7-11700 would be and whether it’s worth the investment. I mainly play Rainbow 6 Siege, Asseto Corsa Competizion, Fortnite, and Minecraft. While Fortnite and Minecraft run smoothly, competitive play can cause lag, so I want to know if the i7-11700 really makes a difference or if there are other options that would be better for my needs.

These games can be tough on certain configurations or scenarios. Your 11,700 seems solid, but the 14,400F is struggling—likely due to specific game demands. It’s lagging in particular situations, not just generally.

It’s not a major issue, though performance drops in Fortnite during endgame zones, especially with more textures added recently. In the previous season, the map became heavier, which slowed things down. With R6, I maintain around 160 fps using low to medium settings, but it’s still a GPU-intensive game and my 6500xt isn’t great. For Minecraft, I don’t experience lag, though I’m concerned during crystal PvP with lots of explosions and rapid movement. Asseto Corsa runs smoothly at about 100 FPS with medium settings, even though it’s visually demanding. I suspect a bit of lag might be due to a virus that forced a hard reset, but everything is now stable. In Minecraft, chunk loading can cause occasional delays, which is why I mostly play on servers or PvP modes. I’m considering upgrading if I can spend around 250 ish, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it.

We should stick with the 11,400. The 11,700 is good too, but it's only about a tenth of a second quicker in games, making it a worthwhile investment, particularly for an older CPU.

Are there any additional CPUs worth considering for an upgrade? Feel free to share ideas beyond the 250 range, and I’ll review them.

the delay is really bothersome and seriously limits my gameplay. lag caused by input delays and other issues because of low frame rates makes it hard to enjoy. this player uses a phone with a high-end phone that’s been customized to bypass CPU throttling, but still struggles with 45-30fps even at 60fps. it’s frustrating, especially with a $1200 device. my mom’s phone runs ultra 20 and barely handles Minecraft smoothly because of constant CPU throttling. I’m hoping to buy a used Xiaomi when I get some money so I can play competitive PvP again at a better speed and improve my skills. I think I’ve slowed down a bit since I stopped playing around 8th grade, mostly because of Cubecraft capture the flag and PC games. Once I warm up, I’m back to being more aggressive, but it’s tough now that CTF is less popular. The pandemic has reduced online play, but people still have lives. Still, I’d love to have some fun with competitive PvP or Minecraft if I can get decent performance. Upgrading to a newer model would be ideal, but right now the 12th or 13th gen seems like the best bet. Zen3 offers solid performance compared to older options, and the 12600k is strong for its price. If you’re looking to resell, a used 6700xt could fetch around $200-$250, depending on condition. The 7700x bundle is a great all-in option, especially since Minecraft benefits from single-core performance. If you’re not exceeding 16GB, it might be worth considering. DDR5 options are also an alternative, but the upgrade path for the MicroCenter is still solid.

That's interesting! Your motherboard only works with certain series, but you're considering a new one instead of just upgrading the CPU later. The microcenter option sounds appealing—would you like a link to it? Regarding the RAM, with 16 GB you have plenty for most needs; let me know if you need help checking compatibility.

I'm not entirely sure about your setup and drivers. Are you asking which specific ones to download based on instructions, or is there a possibility of a typo with the model number? Also, confirm whether it's an 11400f or a different version.

I conveyed my meaning clearly. When you first got the PC, was everything already configured, or did you need to configure certain aspects such as RAM speed?
