Unknown if a memory slot near the CPU failed on your AM2 board. Two yellow slots and two red slots are available. Should I install one in yellow and one in red, or both in red? The board is a GA-M51GM with an Athlon 64 x2 6000+ CPU. HWiNFO reports dual channel but only shows 376MHz clock—does this mean it should actually be around 800MHz? The RAM sticks are OCZ Platinum DDR2. Clarification: channel 0 slot 1 is faulty. Channel 0 slot 0 and channel 1 slot 0+1 are functional.
For fun, you might switch to another CPU and check if the slot activates again, if possible. The installation method won't change the fact that it forces a single channel. I think AM2 doesn't support hybrid dual or single channels. If you find dual channel in the red slots, go with that option. A 400/800 MHz frequency seems appropriate. Hwinfo shows the real memory speed, not just the data rate of 800 MT/s.
Memory defaults to 667 or 333MHz, or 400/200MHz depending on the situation. JEDEC speeds work well. Use channels 1 and 3 as the main dual channels. Everything seems fine. I might test another CPU just to confirm.
I’m going to install my old 3200+ and reposition the new CPU. Guess I’ve been using it in single-channel mode for so long!
