Hi everyone, I'm using a Ryzen 1700x with Crosshair VI Hero motherboard, 32GB DDR4 (2666Mhz) RAM and an RTX 3070 Ti. I'm considering upgrades to boost performance and have these options in mind: * Keep AM4 and move the CPU to a 5800X3D (confirmed works with BIOS 8503). * Switch to AM5, replace the CPU, motherboard, and RAM. What do you think? AM4 seems limited for future upgrades now due to AM50. Best regards, Shane

Going with a 5800x3D setup is the most budget-friendly option, and it works well enough. It’s not the cheapest, but it offers good value. The AM5 model isn’t worth the price compared to what you receive. What’s more appealing is keeping things cool.

I’d definitely choose the AM4 Final Form. It’s more affordable and only slightly slower (5800x3d) compared to the latest AM5 parts in games. You can still upgrade your GPU using the AM4 platform, and if you move to AM5/6 or Intel’s newer models, you’ll still have the option to bring the GPU with you—keeping it as a viable upgrade path.

Hello, good to hear that. Your current setup is with an H80i GT cooler.

It seems you're suggesting something else will be necessary as well.

2700X to 5800X3D is a game-changing upgrade. My GPU keeps being the limiting factor. If you want to reach the top, why not? The new 5800X3D stock won’t last long. Even though it’s popular and boosts my 280AIO performance.

The 5800X3D delivers 120% performance over the 5700X at 160% of its price. A 5700X would also represent a significant leap forward. Pairing it with a Ryzen 7 7700X or Intel i7 12700 offers strong gameplay results. You can bypass the Ryzen 7000 and possibly even the 8000 models. It's also more affordable than replacing an entire board with a new CPU, RAM, and motherboard. Additionally, the 5800X3D isn't overly sensitive to RAM speeds—regular Zen3 struggles with RAM under 3000, while Zen 3 3D is more forgiving.

With those high temperatures, I’d return it and use the air conditioning.
