Hello, I'm facing problems with some games and apps on my enterprise setup. I need to reinstall Pro or upgrade to Win 11, and also purchase a new key. Based on my experience, what do you recommend? How can I preserve the most data, apps, and passwords efficiently—especially when restoring everything takes time? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, how should drivers be updated after a fresh installation nowadays?
Typically it takes a few days to get everything ready, as each app, setting, and configuration needs daily attention. I’m curious if there are better, quicker ways these days. Are there newer Windows versions that make things easier? Should I stick with 10 Pro or is 11 still fine now?
I personally have something I can't lose stored in the cloud. Then I just reinstall without creating more backups. The most important data regarding games usually belongs to an account in some way. For instance, savegames in the Steam cloud, passwords in a password manager, etc.
W11 functions well for most users, though results vary. It remains somewhat inconsistent for some. For a more reliable experience, opt for W10 Pro.
I looked into the compatibility info and found TPM is missing for Windows 11. It’s really frustrating having to type passwords manually since auto-fill doesn’t work properly. Updating drivers is still a hassle. I’m not sure why this is so difficult right now, especially since reinstalling doesn’t seem to fix the main issue—Halo Infinite won’t load. Clicking enter feels like a bad idea if it doesn’t work.
You can probably turn on TPM in your BIOS. It’s a good idea to use a password manager either way, regardless of whether you plan to reinstall or not. Why update drivers? You only need about 10 minutes to download and install the GPU, chipset, and possibly audio drivers. You can also reinstall Windows and choose "keep my data." However, I haven’t used this myself, so I can’t confirm exactly what gets saved or what doesn’t.
I keep all my files and photos on OneDrive for easy access even after reinstalling. Just need to configure the new Windows to use this device, though it will download automatically if necessary. Most of my games—Steam, Origin, Blizzard—were saved on other drives, so I simply point their launchers to the correct libraries. The setup process still takes some time, but that’s normal. I’m still working through the full migration to Windows 11, though it’s mostly complete now. Regarding versions, Windows 11 has performed well after reinstallation, and I actually enjoy it. It’s not flawless, but I haven’t tried any other OS yet.
Many recommend a password manager; yours is LastPAss but it has issues sometimes. Others use different tools. OneDrive is straightforward—just drag and drop files. For Windows 11, download the app from Microsoft and follow the setup. On drivers, you’ll often need to install additional software like IOBit Driver Updater. Keep an eye on updates and backups for smooth operation.
I rely on LastPass and it usually works well. However, sometimes when saving a password or updating it, it fails and locks me out of an account. I can always restore it, but now I just verify the saved password matches what I entered. Instead of using BIOS, I use the W11 media creation tool to make a bootable USB stick, similar to what I did with W10. The BIOS isn't relevant here. I never needed any drivers for network settings; LAN or Wi-Fi drivers were unnecessary in my case. It was always straightforward—just plug and play, without installing drivers. For peripherals, I don’t require any drivers, only the apps for RGB controls and macros. I personally avoid driver updaters because they often use outdated versions and rarely function properly. I maintain only the essential drivers that I keep updated periodically.
