I've checked the setup and everything seems fine. The dust buildup is likely causing intermittent issues. You can spray the contact cleaner generously on the board, including the PCI-E slots, and let it dry. Alternatively, use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to clean the affected areas. This should help identify any shorts.

If it had stayed off for those few years, I’d have checked for a CMOS battery first before thinking about a motherboard issue.

It was connected to all components and I question if the CMOS battery is the issue—it usually lasts more than a decade. The circuit board is around five years old. Ignoring a low CMOS power wouldn’t stop the device from activating.

Household dust mainly consists of dead skin that doesn’t conduct electricity. I’d suggest reattaching components or giving each connection a proper shake. For older hardware, adding a fresh CMOS battery could also help.

On certain services it works too. Just don’t ask me about them since it’s a long time ago, but I’ve noticed it happening.

Varies by maker, but earlier models often needed a functional battery to start. I’ve noticed this on most original equipment. A few were only a few years old, so it might not be the main issue unless you're using a non-OEM setup. It’s something that can usually be resolved with a quick adjustment.

They last approximately ten years when your computer is linked to a power source providing 5V standby power, which replaces the battery to maintain CMOS settings and keeps the battery idle. In storage, it lasts two to three years at most. A battery is inexpensive; just replace it when needed. To clean the motherboard, use isopropyl alcohol—any concentration works, but ensure it reaches around 97% purity before wiping. Place the board in a plastic container and thoroughly soak it in alcohol, shaking it well. You can also gently brush surfaces afterward. After a short period, remove the board and let it dry in a warm area; the remaining alcohol will evaporate quickly. If the alcohol is below about 97%, wait until the residual water evaporates, which usually takes around 30% of the drying time.

Hey guys, just a quick update: I tried again after just blowing the dust off and it worked. Although I found out the problem wasn't the dust nor the battery, it was the GPU not being fully slotted into the board. I have it on top of a piece of fairly sturdy foam (for height) so when I slotted the GPU, it flexed a bit and didn't go all the way in. I figured it out because I tried slotting it again but this time I put my other hand under the foam/board for extra support and then the system turned on just fine
