I thought this was the ideal spot to seek help, if you don’t mind I’ll shift the conversation. I’m testing my new AMD Radeon HD 7950 graphics card and discovered you can use the VCE codec in MSI Afterburner for recording videos and encoding directly on the GPU instead of the CPU. The only limitation is that it supports .mkv format only. I don’t know what to do with it yet—I have CCCP for playing them in Windows Media Player, but I’m unsure how to edit them. I’ve seen VLC as a common choice to convert to MP4, though I’m worried about the quality loss. My goal is just to find out the best approach. Thanks.

Dxtory essentially handles the same process, allowing you to choose various codecs and formats.

MP4 might be simpler for you, so re-encoding it using Handbrake could be a viable option.

I don’t match what you need. I already possess the recording method. The codec is available, but I can handle edits. I’ve noticed this before and will investigate further.

Recording is limited to MKV since GPUs just speed up X264 encoding, which is typical. When it comes to editing MKV, handle it like any regular video file—Vegas will process it, but you also have the option to convert it to another format before editing with your preferred software.
