Opinion/Recommendations for Question4k Build
Hey everyone, I've been working on assembling a PC after a long break. I ended up choosing a pre-built unit that was a solid deal, but it came in unassembled—exactly when the excitement started. Since I haven’t been in this market for a while, I’m expecting a lot of catching up to do before I can get back into building PCs.
Here’s what I’ve gathered so far:
- Intel Core i9 13900KF processor
- DeepCool Castle 360mm ARGB liquid cooler (black)
- PNY Verto RTX 4080 16GB graphics card
- Giga Aorus Z790M Elite AX motherboard (micro-ATX - black)
- 32GB Kingston Fury RGB 5200MHz RAM
- 1TB ADATA Legend Gen 4 NVMe SSD
- MSI A850GL PCIE 5 850W Gold PSU Antec P20C ARGB case
I was also planning to collect parts beforehand, thinking it would be a good idea to buy on sale, but this pre-built option ended up being much cheaper. So I currently have these components ready, though I’m not sure if I should stick with them for now or switch later (initially considering a white build).
I also had Corsair ICUE 4000d Airflow Mid Tower Case in white, Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE White ARGB, and the Corsair RMx SHIFT Series RM850x Power Supply.
For the remaining items—RAM, power supply, and case—I’m still deciding. I’m keeping costs low for now and plan to upgrade later if needed.
some comments:
the T500 supports PCIe 5.0 SSDs, while the Z790 doesn't. stick with the P5 plus.
the Z790M is an MATX board, and the Corsair case is ATX, which might look a bit sparse.
the Peerless Assassin cooler is excellent, go for it.
RMx shift is also a solid PSU, though the MSI one isn't terrible either.
I believe the Crucial T500 is a PCIe 4.0 drive, according to my research. Unless someone confirms.
Yes, returning the case seems likely after careful consideration, and the mATX board will appear empty.
It comes with a deep 360mm liquid cooler, which I think would be more suitable for the processor?
Would you think there might be limitations with the RAM?
You're asking about what these limitations mean. You can look at the motherboard's QVL list to verify if the memory is included. Kingston provides memory for many motherboard makers, so it usually appears on those lists too. Generally, you won't notice a difference in real-world applications between memory speeds. This applies similarly to most high-performance M.2 drives. If you only use benchmark tools, numbers may fluctuate, but it's hard to clearly see a difference without a display showing the variation. There are rare situations where a difference could matter, but for gaming at 4K, the graphics card is usually more important.
Sorry, the term limitation might be incorrect here but I wanted to confirm since this build is high-end there are no component bottlenecks that could hinder the system's full performance. RAM is definitely in the quality range, though I wasn't sure if a 6000mhz (CL30) would be necessary.
I think I might just leave it as is and adjust later after benchmarks. And yes, you're correct about the importance of 4K graphics!
Yes, my apologies. The T500 supports PCIe 4.0.
For gaming tasks, the peerless assassin will perform well. If you overclock and run continuous loads, the heat from the GPU in the already limited case could slightly impact performance.
You should check the documentation for the peerless assassin regarding RAM height clearance.
