Operating System in Three Dimensions
Operating System in Three Dimensions
Is it feasible? Would you choose to use it? I have a concept for how it could work—creating an avatar that represents you, using it to explore the OS like a hallway with doors or side panels, switching views from third to first person. You could rearrange objects around walls, display live updates such as Microsoft’s Windows on mobile, active feeds moving like a metro system, but more visually engaging and in 3D. This would be helpful for Oculus Rift. It’s just a brief outline; I’ll gather requirements and share your thoughts!
What matters most is how simple and fast it is to use, or it would be a real hassle
Discover Second Life at http://www.secondlife.com/. Search for Tygron Teixeira and be sure to mention where you found it, as I might need to restrict access.
Using a fixed avatar speed that forces reaching a door at the end of a corridor would make serious use impractical. Or it would simply be an unnecessary visual effect that wastes GPU power, which I oppose.
What are you referring to? I'm discussing operating systems, not games.
Well, it depends on the situation. Could it be a choice you had to make?
I wouldn't say the game ends because of a chat program. Beyond managing files and adjusting settings, you can do nearly everything you mentioned in SL. Browse the web, play music. It handles a lot, but not very well overall. The idea exists, though it doesn't really matter much. I just started because I met some friends there to chat. Before that, I used it mainly to visit a few clubs and enjoy their music.
