Operating system for web browser on an old computer
Need a lightweight browser experience similar to Chromium OS for educational use. Should only allow web browsing and document viewing. PCs should stay isolated from other functions. I've already tested CloudReady, but it didn't work. Also tried an installer from ArnoldTheBat, though I'm unfamiliar with Linux setup. Hardware specs: motherboard MS6743, Pentium 4 3GHz, 1/2GB DDR400 RAM (likely 2GB total), ATI graphics cards, Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 HDD.
With a Pentium 4 it will always run sluggishly, regardless of actions taken. These suggestions are likely to be discarded. A Linux distribution such as Lubuntu might function? You could simply set up a web browser and turn off the rest.
If you can't locate a browser OS, consider trying to install Linux Mint, Lubuntu, or Xubuntu.
You might also consider Flint OS. It offers a cloud version similar to OS and has received excellent feedback. What could be worse? Check out this link: https://flintos.io/
Additionally, following this path means these operating systems ignore hardware modifications, focusing solely on installation and setup. After initial success, you can replicate the entire drive multiple times, maintain spare copies, and continue modifying or updating as needed for expanded functionality.
