Operating system for HLDS, Mumble, MC, and Plex servers
I own an fx4130 with 16GB RAM upgraded to 3.7GHz. It handles 3 HLDS servers (TF2, L4D2, TF2), a Plex server, and a lot of media streaming. Mumble and Minecraft are also running on it. It feels like too much is on one machine, but the MC server (Spigot) is just for my child and a friend out of state. I’m not sure if I’m pushing the system too hard. I’m using Windows 10, which sometimes causes issues. I’m not very familiar with Linux, but I think HLDS servers work better there. I’m good at following visual instructions, so learning Linux shouldn’t be a problem. Anyone have suggestions for another operating system that could handle these programs smoothly?
Linux server options available. Windows deployment on servers isn't practical. Ubuntu Server Debian can be installed without a desktop environment; CentOs/RHEL is likely excessive for this use. Need assistance setting up a Linux server via CLI? I'm here to help. For your SRCDS games, there are automation scripts at https://gameservermanagers.com/lgsm/. To monitor servers, SSH with your preferred monitoring tool works well—HTTPS is a favorite of mine.
