I’d consider switching to Windows 8.1, but since I intend to create a fresh system this year, it seems unnecessary. In your case, though, Windows 8.1 would be the optimal choice. It’s not that Windows 7 is bad at all—far from it—it’s simply that Windows 8.1 performs noticeably better overall.

Yes, Windows 8.1 could work well for gaming if you're on a budget or prefer its interface.

I don’t miss the start button much. Right-clicking the Windows logo works well for me. Since I used Windows 8.1, I’m not keen on reverting to version 7.1.
