Hey there. I’ve been searching for a Linux distribution that fits your needs—something you can burn to a DVD and install quickly. I’ve run into problems getting to the desktop on my Sun Ultra20, which has a 2.5TB SATA setup, an AMD Opteron 148, 2GB RAM, and an Nvidia 1060 GPU. Any suggestions for a more modern OS that works smoothly on this hardware?

Here are some options to explore:

- Puppy Linux (http://puppylinux.com/) – Very small size (300MB or less), many distros to choose from!
- Lubuntu (https://lubuntu.net/) – Lightweight Debian-based version of Ubuntu MATE
- Ubuntu MATE (https://ubuntu-mate.org/) – Classic Ubuntu experience with a MATE desktop environment

I also tried Debian, but I'm downloading it once more just to give it another shot. Perhaps the download had an issue...

It functions adequately on Solaris 10, but Solaris 11 causes significant performance drops when using the GUI for a workstation. Solaris 10 encounters problems with certificates, HTTPS and other features, making browsing difficult right out of the box. The companion CD has also been discontinued. If Solaris were actively maintained, this situation would be different, but it currently lacks proper support.

I tried installing Debian again this time using the net install CD. Everything functioned perfectly, and I now have everything I needed—Google Chrome, Steam, and more—working smoothly. The system runs efficiently on Debian too.
