Operating a 'hub' on a main PC via a network connection
We’re looking at upgrading our home office setup. Would it be feasible to keep that PC and connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse from the son’s room to the main system for his homework tasks? I’m trying to find a budget-friendly solution using a hub or a very inexpensive PC. Thanks!
You can purchase a refurbished computer under $100, then add a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Alternatively, consider an all-in-one setup where the computer is built into the monitor—available for around $280 here: https://www.newegg.com/p/1VK-0003-03W68. Refurbished laptops are also an option, with models available as low as $100, such as one priced at $125 with solid resolution and screen size: https://www.newegg.com/p/1TS-000A-03SV7. These options work well for studying, typing, chatting, or streaming YouTube.
Yes, you can connect via KVM for board and mouse control. A long HDMI cable works well for separate monitors or mirroring displays upstairs. The HDMI standard supports cables up to 50 feet.
