I attempted the suggestion, but no available options were found. Perhaps adjusting the configuration file could help.
Checking your setup to see if integrated graphics might improve performance.
Ignore dxgl, it doesn't function with HOMM4. (I can operate it but it fails to reach the main menu.) The project is still in development, but it could be helpful for some older systems. So you're limited to using only the resolution your display supports? The default settings for NVidia Linux drivers aren't really suited for retro gaming. It's likely that other options are disabled. To clarify: What does "xrandr" show? (Use this method instead—it will be much clearer than screenshots.) For example: $ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3440 x 1440, maximum 16384 x 16384 DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-4 connected primary 3440x1440+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 3440x1440 59.97*+ 99.98 49.99 2560x1440 59.95 2560x1080 60.00 59.94 2048x1536 85.00 75.00 60.00 1920x1440 60.00 59.94 50.00 1856x1392 75.00 60.01 1792x1344 75.00 60.01 1680x1050 59.95 1600x1200 85.00 75.00 70.00 65.00 60.00 1600x900 60.00 1440x900 59.89 1400x1050 74.76 59.98 1280x1024 85.02 75.02 60.02 1280x960 85.00 60.00 1280x800 59.81 1280x720 60.00 59.94 50.00 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 85.00 75.03 70.07 60.00 832x624 74.55 800x600 85.14 75.00 72.19 60.32 56.25 720x576 50.00 720x480 59.94 720x400 85.04 700x525 74.76 59.98 640x480 85.01 75.00 72.81 72.81 59.94 640x400 85.08 640x350 85.08 512x384 70.07 60.00 400x300 72.19 320x240 72.81 60.05 320x175 85.27 DP-5 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
I received this output dimensions and values. You want to maintain a 16:9 aspect ratio while adjusting the resolution. That should resolve your issue without affecting game files.
If the issue lies with your laptop’s monitor lacking scaling features, I’m unable to assist further. The current NVidia Linux driver presents challenges here. This stems from the outdated X.Org codebase and complications arising from resolution switching—especially when using Wine. There are no available GUI options to enable scaling at the moment. You may want to examine "IncludeImplicitMetaModes" in xorg.conf for more guidance. See this discussion for details: https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic...g-to-work/. For your driver version, refer to the documentation: https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linu...tions.html. Possible workarounds include setting "Scaling=Aspect, UseModePool = true" or "UseModePool = false." The situation is further complicated by Wine and NVidia driver inconsistencies regarding xrandr handling. It seems difficult to achieve proper scaling, particularly for 16:9, except with a compatible external display. I haven’t tested this myself since it’s not essential. Recent forum threads mention similar experiences, suggesting it may be very hard or impossible without special hardware.
