Open source solution to reduce speed of CD drive on Windows 98 SE
I reached my decision. I really enjoy playing old games on HELIOS. However, I dislike the loud noise from my 52X CD drive. I used a free program once to reduce the speed (as I set it), but I can't recall its name. It would be great if someone could help me locate it, because it's what stops me from playing more on HELIOS during weekends.
I don’t have any fresh thoughts, yet I recall playing games on my Windows 98 system and found it tough to chat when the disk was spinning.
You have a collection of ATAPI commands to adjust drive speed. It’s possible to build a script that automates this process. You can also install DriveSpeed 2000 or comparable software, which offers similar functionality. More versions are available on the CD-ROM page at http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdr...ls_4.shtml.
