Hi everyone, I just installed Bitdefender antivirus and now I can't open .exe files unless I run them with admin privileges. This is frustrating since I need to use my workplace VPN. I also tried uninstalling the antivirus, but it still causes the same issue. Help would be really appreciated because I can't do a clean install on my computer. Thanks in advance!

Have you verified your user account status as an administrator? Test by executing .exe files under a different user account to determine if the issue continues. Then consider this Windows thread: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...fda5042913

Hello, thank you for your message. I attempted to log in using another admin account, but it didn’t succeed. I also reviewed the Windows thread you provided, and everything matched the instructions to make changes.

Discovered another resource recommending this method: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind...533d50d53a. Follow the steps below to gain inherited access and see if it resolves your issue. Navigate to the main User Profile folder where your files reside (for instance, if your profile is named "computer", the path is C:\Users\computer). Right-click any folder and choose Properties from the context menu. Move to the Security section and click Advanced. Tick the box labeled “Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object.” Click OK. You might need to click the change permissions button to make it visible. This action applies once, so you won’t notice the toggle if you check later. It should fix problems with executable files on your desktop, though you may need to adjust permissions for other applications later. Give it a try and observe the results.

No problem, the feature was already activated, so you can safely revert it by disabling and then re-enabling it.
