Only UEFI appears during the USB boot process in the BIOS setup.
I recently purchased an SSD and performed a new Windows 10 installation, making sure to disconnect my HDD during the process. Over time, I realized I wasn’t seeing the Windows boot logo upon startup—instead, the ASUS ROG logo appeared. I discovered the distinction between Legacy and UEFI installations. It seems I might have chosen the USB with the UEFI tag accidentally. Now, whenever I access the boot menu in my motherboards (ASUS GENE VII BIOS), only the UEFI option appears. In "Hard Drive BBS Priorities," both USB and external drives show without the [UEFI] tag, and the boot device numbering works as expected. I’m curious why this matters. Before the SSD, I frequently ran clean Legacy installs on my HDD without this step. While I don’t want to revert immediately, it would be helpful to know this option exists in case I ever need it again. CSM is active and Secure Boot OS type is set to "Windows UEFI," which appears to be the default setting after my change. Thank you.
I believed fast boot didn't impact performance since CSM was active. I can't turn off CSM because I can't POST when using it. I disabled fast boot too after hearing potential issues, so should I turn it back on? Also, you mentioned UEFI doesn't work with Windows 7—what if I ever need to revert? You also noted it offers more boot choices but prevents legacy installs, right?
That's unusual. The ROG logo appears only at the end of the post, while the Windows logo follows. You might also try turning off the ROG logo in the BIOS settings.
