We recently purchased a new cat6 Ethernet cable. We have a 10-port gigabit switch, and it functions properly when connected to the switch, but its speed is limited to 100 Mbps. Connecting it directly to the modem results in no connection. If you need further details, feel free to ask. Thanks!
We have just two cables available—the older Cat5 and the newer Cat6. I can attempt to connect the old Cat5 and check if it functions properly.
This situation seems more about adjusting settings during a discussion. You might want to adjust your computer's speed and duplex manually to gigabit. Here’s how: Open the Control panel, go to Network and Sharing Center, change adapter settings, right-click one of your network adapters, click properties, then configure it. Depending on the adapter type—like an Intel adapter—this will appear under Link Speed. For other adapters, navigate to Advanced settings, find Speed & Duplex, and set it to 1.0Gbps Full Duplex.
Have you considered using different gadgets with that connection to check if they achieve 1Gbps performance?
