I just installed a new motherboard and CPU. I transferred all my other parts from my old PC. It will start using the BIOS, and my storage info shows an SSD connected to SATA port 1 and an HDD on SATA port 2. My UEFI hard drive is set as the first priority in boot order, but I don’t see the SSD or HDD listed there. I’m not sure what’s missing to get it to boot from the SSD first, which contains my OS.

The os really isnt expected to work across several boards. IT CAN work as a sort of side effect of how windows 10 is but its always smarter to just reinstall the os when you change a board. Theres no real reason it has to boot the old os , it just happens to be a thing that sometimes is possible. Does install media reconize the drive?

I’ve heard you’ve had some fortunate moments lately. It’s time to start getting ready and planning ahead, especially when swapping boards next time. You managed to switch from UEFI to CSM in the BIOS. After that change, your drives appeared in the boot order, and selecting your SSD made it boot up normally.

Verify CSM Boot configurations are restricted to "UEFI" exclusively. The primary display will read "CSM UEFI and BIOS," followed by options like "UEFI ONLY," "BIOS ONLY," or "UEFI FIRST" or "BIOS FIRST." Interestingly, "ONLY" simply indicates the initial setting; pressing F8 (or equivalent) still allows BIOS booting.

I completely disagree with this.

You can choose, and it might surprise you how varied your experience is.

No, it wasn't the same. You're asking if it was different and then clarifying your question.

Thank you a bit late. I faced the same issue with my MSI PRO B660M-A. The chance to change from UEFI to CSM Boot was completely missing—no where to find it in the boot settings, just someone else seemed to have missed this. Also, regarding reinstalling Windows, I haven’t done it yet, and everything runs smoothly even though I understand they suggest doing so for better performance.
