I was planning to replace my LGA775 Asus board with 16GB (four 4GB modules) RAM, but while browsing eBay I discovered many DDR2 800MHz sticks. The sellers kept cautioning that these were compatible only with AMD CPUs. Can I possibly get them to work on an Intel motherboard? Would a video tutorial help? Otherwise, it seems like a costly upgrade might be necessary. Ugh.

They won't fit with Intel's consumer components—they were excluded, probably because they're 4-bit while consumer parts are 8-bit. Their Xeons can handle 4-bit, but AMD doesn't have that limitation. Intel has been acting poorly for a long time.

They won't function properly. Each memory chip offers more addressable bits than what the Intel CPU supports.

You could purchase them, but keep an eye on how they perform

I mistakenly purchased some inexpensive memory for an LGA775 system and received no post and odd beeps indicating a RAM fault. It was DDR3, but it was high-density RAM and the chipset required low voltage, which I wasn’t aware of. The Intel-compatible version cost a bit more at the time. Since I haven’t experienced many RAM failures, buying used seems like a solid choice. You could potentially save money by opting for used units if you’re only interested in new or new-old stock items.
