I encountered an unusual issue with displaying output from my laptop and connecting it to a monitor. The screen consistently showed black. I’ve managed to reproduce this with certain monitors and newer laptop models. My machine is an XPS 15 9520 running Windows 11 Pro (version 10.0.22635, Build 22635). I’ve confirmed the drivers are up to date. The problem started with a professional streaming configuration using Kiloview (model uncertain, likely N60/N50). That setup displayed large projectors but still showed black signals. I changed all cables between the Kiloview box, streaming computer, and laptop without resolving it. The issue also appeared with other older computers but not with newer MacBooks (model unclear). It also affected the biggest conference room TVs in our university. The likely cause seems to be a mismatch between resolution and refresh rate settings on my XPS, possibly due to new hardware. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I’ve tried USB3 and Thunderbolt ports, various adapters, and even tested different dongles. EDIT; The issue was resolved. It appears my XPS tried to enforce an incompatible resolution and refresh rate, which I fixed by adjusting the second-screen display properties. Updated November 7, 2023 by Ep1cFIN Solved

I resolved the issue by setting a compatible resolution and refresh rate via the display adapter settings!
