Online GTA V screenshots of a city with moderate resource demand at 60% CPU and 60% GPU utilization
Hey there, I've noticed some unusual performance patterns with my framedrops in GTA Online. When I'm not in the city and just exploring the desert, my GPU usage hits 99 percent while frame rates stay solid at 90-120 FPS. But once I enter the urban areas, it drops to around 60-70 percent usage and framerates fall to 50-60. Initially, I thought this was a CPU bottleneck, but after using the afterburner overlay, it becomes clear that only one core/thread is at 70 percent load, with the rest at 50 or less. Also, I doubt a 7700HQ would struggle so much in GTA V. Temperatures on both CPU and GPU remain well below 80°C, which is normal for a laptop. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

The game is likely loading data ahead of time. How much memory is being used by VRAM?
Sorry for the delayed reply. I was re-downloading GTA to check if that would resolve the problem, though it didn’t. I thought the VRAM setting in Afterburner might be the issue—around 3.7/3.8GB during the framedrops. That’s significantly higher than the 1900MB listed in the graphics menu, but since the 1060 has 6GB of VRAM, it shouldn’t be a major concern, right?

I've checked Overwatch at 720p to see if I could push CPU usage higher, but all threads stayed under 80% while the GPU hovered around 70%. That gives me some insight.
