Online gaming sessions on local networks or specialized platforms
So recently I set up a computer for my son because I wanted him to participate in the competitive scene, and now he’s ready to join me in multiplayer games. But things have changed since then. Back in 2003 I left friends due to work commitments, and ever since I’ve mostly played single-player or online modes, not LAN setups, and ignored that trend. Recently I tried Battlefield 3—it dropped to $1 during the holidays, so I thought it’d be fun for him to play with me until he’s ready to join the group. But now I’m stuck. Is LAN really gone from modern games? Does COD have a LAN option? Yes, there is, but not all titles support it. I own over 250 games on Steam and Origin, but my storage is limited, so I only install a few at a time. I don’t want to waste time installing or buying games just to realize we can’t play together.
He could enjoy Minecraft, which you can always launch for LAN play
Hello, I checked online and discovered a few popular options: Payday 1/2 Garrys mod, Minecraft SWAT 4, GTA IV mods. What I found might not be entirely accurate.
GTA IV (2008) feels quite outdated compared to today's games. Most major developers don't offer LAN play options, and big studios avoid sharing server files due to piracy concerns. They also argue that adding LAN or releasing servers is too complicated and no longer a priority. This situation is similar with BF and COD.
