One of my GPU fans reaches full speed
Hi, I own an NVIDIA 1070 with an ASUS ROG on a 270F motherboard. The CPU is the 7700K and everything is running stock. Recently, one of my GPU fans stopped working completely—especially in the left fan. It would reach 100% speed during a game without any reason. At first it happened while playing Persona 5, then I tried League of Legends with maximum client speed. Everything seemed normal before. I updated the drivers but nothing helped. After installing ASUS GPU Tweak 3, the problem persisted; the fan kept spinning even when the game wasn’t intense or when I closed the application. It felt like a persistent issue. I had to remove this software for it to behave a bit better. Please help me fix this!
I attempted to adjust the fan speed in ASUS Tweak and observed a change in performance across the other fans.
I wouldn't say its spinning 100% for no reason. Usually there is a reason, wether thats software or hardware related. Are you running any software that can potentially adjust fan speeds, like for example msi afterburner? If you do, please make sure that the fan is on auto, and if that doesn't work, try temporarily uninstalling such software. One of the things, if its a hardware issue i would check, is checking the fan cable in the gpu. Make sure its seated correctly 100% Push it in further if possible (See picture for cables) If this doesn't fix it, it might very well be degredation of your gpu.
I attempted to modify the fan curve for less sensitivity, but the adjustment had minimal effect or no noticeable improvement.
A shadowdog mentioned it looks very probable. I’ll try adjusting the speed in any OC utility to observe any changes. If that fails, it might be the fan itself or the controller on the card. You can test by changing the fan headers on the GPU and watching the behavior. If it’s the real fans, you should find replacements on eBay; otherwise, for the GPU, you’ll have to tolerate it or build something with case fans. That’s assuming it’s out of warranty.
