Hey everyone, the main point is that my new Seagate Barracuda runs properly over USB when connected via an external SATA to USB cable powered by AC. If I plug it in internally, it appears as an image and doesn’t format correctly. The display shows the drive incorrectly, even though I’ve formatted it as GPT this time because MBR won’t support 4TB. Other SATA ports and cables don’t help, but USB works fine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Right-click functionality isn't available when using the SATA interface.

Check the motherboard manual for restrictions on SATA usage when other devices are present. Some models may prevent SATA if NVMe or similar peripherals occupy specific slots.

I replaced my WD Blue 1TB with an A Seagate Barracuda 4TB before that. The total number of drives stayed the same. I don’t have any NVMe drives; instead, I have two SATA SSDs and one HDD connected via SATA.

It seems the system recognized the drive but you can't access it. You mentioned formatting, so I suspect no data was saved. Let's attempt a different approach—run CMD with admin privileges and execute the disk cleanup command. Then, verify the disk list to confirm it's disk 0 with the expected partitions and unallocated space. Proceed to remove all partitions, exit CMD, and check if the drive appears again in Disk Management. Consider rebooting only if needed.

This situation isn't happening because Windows can view the disk. (I expect that.)

Please clarify how you want to assign the new drive with the old letter. Let me know if you need help with formatting or naming conventions.

Great! If no other drive is attached as D, you might need to restart. If another drive is blocking it, switch it out and try again. Restart once more if that doesn’t help. If everything fails, we may have to use DiskPart. Please let me know how it goes.

Rebooting didn't resolve the issue. I removed the Dosdevices D entry from the registry, but it still didn't work (rebooted again). Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you for the help so far!

I changed the old hard drive to a letter name before swapping it out, and even after that, the missing D drive was still visible.
