You've got a prebuilt Acer Veriton S480G with extra RAM installed. The system makes a loud beep when you power it off, but it restarts normally after you install more RAM. Trying the CMOS reset didn't help either. It sounds like your motherboard doesn't support high-density RAM, but there might be workarounds or BIOS settings you can check. Consider consulting your motherboard manual or reaching out to Acer support for compatibility options.
Max RAM capacity is 8GB yet it only has four slots, which means it probably only supports 2GB per slot. Therefore, it’s unlikely to work as intended. A better choice if you’re on a budget would be to purchase a used or older i5 tower from eBay—look for a second, third, or fourth generation model and install an SSD. This setup can create a solid daily browsing and light computing machine for under $100.
I possess a G43T-AM4 Mobo with standard installation, containing DDR3 components inside.
It plays a big role. The system was built when 4GB RAM was still costly, and they didn’t release a 2GB DDR2 model until later. For launch, they kept the 2GB limit on the ddr3 version. You can figure out the right amount by removing the dimm slots and splitting the total RAM accordingly—though bigger configurations are uncommon.
The highest density for Core 2 processors is limited, with most DDR2 memory capped at 2GB. Many motherboards restrict overall RAM capacity as well. It's best to review the documentation.
I didn’t have any manual and it’s an DDR3 motherboard, so I probably won’t be able to fix it myself.
