Old traces of software not installed anymore
When I remove an application, parts of it remain on my storage devices. For instance, deleting League of Legends leaves a 'Riot Games' folder in my C: drive. How can I eliminate these traces if I’m unsure where they are? They often consume significant space.
The Windows uninstall tool typically manages this effectively...
use ccleaner to delete temp files and registry errors also theres some other uninstall program that removes leftover files which I cant remember the name of, someone else will know it you can also choose where files go when installing a program, so making them go to a place you know can help you remove them afterwards
This applies only when you pick a custom directory during setup (though system files still show up in their own folders even if you change the location). To clarify: When you say "delete a program," I mean removing it completely, not just moving files. I don’t know how many believe that’s all they need to do—macOS behaves differently. If you remove games, they often retain saved game folders without asking for confirmation. If you’re confident and skilled, you can scan the computer registry for leftover entries and delete them. You might also look up instructions online from the manufacturer, as they usually provide specific guidance. Sometimes these remnants are harmless, just a minor annoyance. One more option is to reinstall the app exactly as before, then run a thorough uninstallation (hoping it logs everything correctly). You can check the uninstall log yourself to track where files go.
they are typically stored in program files, programfiles(x86), the "common" directory within those two items you mentioned, and also in %appdata%
