Okay so maybe I'm having trouble with my network or ports, and I am looking for some assistance.
Okay so maybe I'm having trouble with my network or ports, and I am looking for some assistance.
I checked where the official developers said to forward ports, found that list here, set up my static IP and forwarded those ports, but when I test if the port is open it keeps throwing errors. This stops me from matching in Street Fighter 6. I was told maybe it's on my end because when I use a VPN like Mullvad and connect to an LA server I get matches quickly, but without a VPN it takes anywhere from five to fifteen minutes or even longer. Any help is welcome. I don't know if this will work, but I use Spectrum and they have a list of blocked ports on their site. Just cross-referencing what's needed for SF6 looks like nothing is actually blocked on my ISP side (unless it just isn't listed there), so if a VPN fixes the problem it points to something on my end that I don't know how to fix. Also, I ran a trace on my WAN IP to see if there were other NAT devices and it only showed my WAN IP, which is good? And finally, I tested both Windows 10 and 11 with clean installs of just the game running. On both versions, the match made faster when using a VPN in every case.
I don't know exactly how this game works, but if a VPN makes it run, then it's probably not about port forwarding. You can't port forward anything on a VPN and sharing your public IP with many other people is just hard to do. Also things like UPnP won't work here either. So if the game runs better on a VPN, it's probably something else because you have fewer connections when using one. If the servers are all in one place then you don't need any port forwarding at all. That would only happen if your computer had to act as a server for someone else. Some console games like this never even use official servers from the company that makes them. Usually these games have a lot of trouble when they run on VPNs, which is the opposite of what you're facing too. Port problems usually mean it won't start or stop working, but not how fast you get to a match. Since I don't play this game it's hard to tell for sure, but it must be about how matchmaking works. It probably thinks where your public IP address is based on some information that doesn't match the city where you actually live.
