This situation might be difficult to clarify and understand. I'm not sure if I made a mistake or what actually happened. I purchased an authentic copy of Office 2021 Pro Plus—two copies with two distinct keys for two different computers from eBay for my parents. I installed them at the start of this year on a Windows 11 laptop and a Windows 10 desktop, and both are working without any problems. Now both are linked to one Microsoft account. I don't think that is the main issue, but I'm unsure and just trying to include all the details I remember. On the laptop, it was previously using Office 2007. Before installing 2021, I removed 2007. I'm not certain if this is the only reason, but I'm keeping track of which keys belong to which software and device. I noticed a mismatch between these two products—possibly the keys were swapped, though I'm not sure. I'm very organized, so I check my laptop with a program that lists keys. I've tried two different programs and both showed Office 2007 on the laptop. The key for 2007 still appears there. When I logged into the Microsoft account, it confirmed both devices were linked to Office, but it didn't display the correct key for either device. Under order history, it shows which Office is installed, yet no key information appears. If I open Word and go to Account settings, I can change the product key without being signed in, except for the desktop version. I haven't changed it yet because I don't want to use the 2021 key on the desktop. On the desktop, I searched with the same tools as the laptop but couldn't locate any Office key. One program (pcunlcoker) gave an error when trying to boot from it, claiming it didn't find a SAM file. The other program showed no Office key. If I enter the 2021 key on the laptop that's used on the desktop, is there a way to identify the correct key without using any tools? I've searched extensively and tried various methods, but I'm getting confused.

the office will display only the microsoft account linked with the key, not the key itself.
For Microsoft 365, Office 2021, Office 2019 and Office 2016, you can see the account associated with your Microsoft ID.
This account acts as a substitute for your product key and can be used to reinstall Office from the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page, or to activate Office.
To access the Microsoft account linked to Office, open a document in Word (or any Office application) and navigate to File > Account.
Look for the email address after "Belongs to" below the product name.

Ty for the details. In the future, when I need to reinstall Office on either my laptop or desktop, I won’t require a DVD or product key, even after a fresh Windows installation, as long as the software remains linked to the Microsoft account. I understand it won’t display the complete key, but there’s no partial key either.

On the laptop, two key finder programs indicate the Office version as 2007. How can I make it display the current version, 2021? Shouldn’t this not be a concern as long as everything functions properly?

This has piqued my interest. I’ve checked my desktop, which runs Office 2019 and Windows 11. Both key finder programs show Office 2019, but they display an unfamiliar key for any software, including Windows. Is Microsoft altering the key after installation to block access to the genuine key? Also, a VB script I found online provided a different key that doesn’t match what the key finder shows.

In any scenario, Microsoft is the sole organization capable of resolving this issue, should one exist.

The main focus is simply to reinstall the office offline. I believe it no longer needs to be saved locally and once the office is back online, it will automatically activate again, eventually deleting the key from your computer and replacing it with a flag or similar.
Be cautious with these key-finding tools, as some may infect your devices with malware or other threats.
You don´t need to worry about this problem
😉
