Hi, I haven't played much lately, but I just got the 8bitdo Pro 2 and started using it with Whitcher 3 (based mostly on Anthony's video). The system automatically swapped A and B, and X with Y, so the buttons didn’t match their labels by default. It worked fine for me to adjust everything in the config tool, but it feels strange that the labels don’t line up naturally. Anyone else notice this issue? Are there other unexpected button mappings I should be aware of?

The Pro 2 and most of 8BitDo's controllers use buttons following the classic SNES design. The Xbox-style setup, familiar to many modern players, is: Y X B A Are you certain you're not just puzzled by the button arrangement? You haven't specified the platform you're using, though it seems like this post is from PC. The 8BitDo controller switches between modes (Xinput, Dinput, etc.) based on your device—this could contribute to any confusion you're experiencing. 8BitDo provides a Windows app that lets you tweak all the button mappings.

I was using Steam on Windows 10 while following the Whitcher guide, and it worked as expected. I had to press and hold buttons to get the actions it recommended should match. The controller connects via a cable, and the switch on the bottom is set to 'x' per the manual. It seems the default might be designed to look like an Xbox controller, which could explain why it feels natural if you're used to that setup. The last game I played was the N64 version of Smash, so my expectations probably aren't confusing me.

I noticed a change in how the controller works. Windows now treats it as an Xbox 360 device, even though the buttons are labeled differently. This means the usual button mapping doesn’t match what the system expects. You might want to try rebinding the controls using the 8Bitdo app or simply get used to the new layout.

In fact, a consideration arises: based on the color variant of the Pro 2 (some models display labels next to the buttons instead of on them), you might decide to disassemble the controller and swap the buttons so that the marked patterns align with the standard Xinput layout. I checked briefly and found that for the Pro+ and Pro 2, the plastic button components are all interchangeable, meaning you’d just need to rearrange them.

Thanks for the feedback! It's helpful to understand what's behind these changes. The buttons are straightforward to reconfigure with 8bitdo software, especially when your Windows is set correctly. The bigger size option can cause unexpected behavior in the utility. If you're looking for differences between 8bitdo and Xbox controller styles, it might depend on how the mapping aligns with your gameplay preferences. Since you don’t have an Xbox controller handy, you could try testing variations manually to see what feels best.
