I just got my RT-AC3200 router and wondered why buy one when my internet speed is only around 500 Mbps?

Absolutely, you don't need anything extra. The main benefit of gaming routers is strong QoS, so save your money.

Even with a slow ISP there are certain factors at play. If you have many wireless gadgets or require fast data transfers within your network, it can help. However, in reality a WiFi router like AC1800 or similar usually suffices for most users for a long time.
