Check local regulations regarding liability when renting a server and someone misuses it. Consider how commercial use—especially with financial involvement—might influence legal outcomes or penalties.

I do not recommend that you rent it out. With only 1TB of storage, there won't be pretty much no market for it. Your ISP will probably not permit it (or would charge you much more for business use). You would be liable for any lost data if the server should completely fail (Raid 1 isn't much protection) or gets infected, if the server gets infected and infects your client, etc. Liability insurance would be expensive (and would be limited). Your internet speeds are too slow to be practical for most people. If your client used the server for illegal purposes, you would probably be held liable (look what happened to the original Mega). Business fees would bury you.

When I rent it, I can redirect all traffic to a business VPS using a VPN from Romania as a proxy, correct? The client will receive only the IP address from that VPS? Yes, that could cause issues with just 1 TB of storage. I’m considering purchasing 10–20 TB WD Red drives and setting them up in a larger RAID configuration.

You can lease a server through Leaseweb for around 30-40 dollars monthly, featuring enhanced bandwidth options (like multiple connections). You can get instant delivery and enjoy a home connection without strict service guarantees. Your IP addresses aren’t designated for business use, so hosting an email server there is unlikely feasible. It’s not a good deal since competitors can provide similar services at lower costs thanks to larger hardware inventories.

The VPS will further reduce your connection speeds, which are already insufficient. If a client misuses your server for illegal activities and authorities pursue the VPS, the company you work with may follow you or sell you out to law enforcement. Additionally, the VPS might impose higher business charges if used for commercial purposes or shut down your service if it detects such use without paying the increased fees. Purchasing more capacity will likely cost significantly more than the potential returns from renting it out.
