They believe purchasing an OEM key from eBay avoids the high cost from Microsoft and prevents risks like viruses or tracking issues. I’ve attempted to persuade them but haven’t succeeded—stronger arguments are needed.

more options for us when they don’t trust you. If they believe it could somehow bring in a virus, I question if they’ll be swayed by anything else. I often remind folks about getting a Win10 Pro key from eBay for around $5—listen up, cool if they pay, otherwise just cool lol.

It's their funds, so why care if they don't pay attention? They might also opt to install Windows without a license.

A KEY is a simple text string meant to unlock something. Using it could potentially spread malware. That’s a really bad idea. If you want a more secure key, you can pay $100 for one. Otherwise, the cheaper ones on eBay will work just as well and PayPal will help if needed. In extreme cases, the cost might only be a couple of dollars.

It looks like someone thinks a key won’t help with a virus unless it’s for a dodgy Windows version or a program that insists on a key. Both scenarios are extremely rare.

He is building a budget machine and having to buy a key from microsoft may cause him to drop some of his budget, this is also one of my best friends and for some reason he's just not trusting this, I even told him I'll use my paypal and he pays me in cash. I think I'll win him over though.

They mentioned a Win 10 Pro key purchased on eBay for $2.99 functions properly. The USB drive needed to install the Windows tool was pricier, which is what people are saying.

It seems like the situation is straightforward. Win 10 is essentially free for regular users now. Microsoft provides the ISO on their website, and there aren’t any major consequences for not purchasing a license. Any limitations they impose can usually be ignored. If he believes using a third-party purchased key will automatically cause a virus, he might want to reconsider building the system. No worries about that. Perhaps you should assemble it yourself if you have some hardware experience, just to avoid any issues.
