In reality, there isn't a Windows 8.1 Home version. Available options are 8.1, 8.1 Pro, and 8.1 Media Center Edition. Curious thing—used the identical Windows 7 Home Premium OEM key three times on the same hardware setup.

I own several OEM Win 7 copies, and I've reinstalled them many times. I'm not sure if version 8.1 is compatible, but when trying to activate 7 it says it can't and prompts a phone number. Calling that number helps guide me through the activation process on my updated system.
