I've been considering purchasing a complete Windows 8.1 install, but OEM versions are also available. They seem marginally more affordable. What sets them apart?

Only OEM versions are allowed, retail copies can be transferred between PCs.

It varies. Joining a domain or booting from a virtual hard disk is necessary in some cases.

These aren't original equipment manufacturer keys; they're MSDN identifiers with limited validity.

In fact, OEM keys work on 15 distinct machines prior to needing a replacement. Simply follow their phone activation steps.
