Windows began acting strangely with all my Chrome and Steam activities. Is there a method to restore everything to its usual state?

After restarting, the system behaves similarly; your work PC maintains its state when switching into compatibility mode (aero turned off).

Windows displays grouped subitems as a list when you close multiple tabs. Restoring the live preview mode is easy.

This has never happened before, even when using six tabs.

You turned off certain features in the Windows Performance panel. Go to Start, type "Performance," select "Pick: Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows," and choose all options or "Adjust for best appearance." Restart your computer and it should work again.

Instead, you modified the Windows registry and applied a limit. To correct it, open the registry (press Start > type: regedit) and go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband. If you notice an entry named "NumThumbnails" there, it means you set it, which isn't needed. Choose that item and press the delete key. Restart your system and everything should return to normal.
