Hi, I'm not sure if this thread matches your situation, but I've experienced some problems with my monitor. The 27" VG278QR I bought about two years ago has been perfect until recently. A very thin, faint streak appeared near the top—about 1-2mm down and in the center third of the screen. Over the past two weeks it has slowly moved down by 5-10mm and now covers the whole width. At first I thought it was a cable issue, tried different cables without success. Then I suspected the screen layers or edge seals might be degrading, but after turning it off for a couple days the streak disappeared completely for about 12 hours. After leaving it on overnight, it returned. Have anyone encountered this before? What could cause such a change?
I've just wiped it down several times using a microfiber cloth, but I haven't applied any liquids.
It seems the sheets are slightly separated. Liquid is often involved, but since the top layer is exposed, heat and expansion might have let air in between over time. You could try gently pressing the area with your finger to see if the pressure returns. If you're comfortable, take off the back of the display and inspect the edges for adhesive tape. If tape is present, it may have dried out due to heat, causing the layers to separate slightly. You can then carefully remove the old tape and reapply a new one to seal securely.
It looks like a layer separation issue might be occurring. From the visual signs, it seems air or moisture trapped between layers could be causing the problem. When pressure is applied, the separation may become more noticeable as the air warms and expands after the monitor is turned off. There appears to be a gap at the top edge of the panel compared to the plastic cover on the sides and back, which isn’t seen elsewhere. I’ll check if this can be fixed or if it will persist. It seems heat is leading to expansion. I don’t think there’s much cause for concern about it getting worse. I’m not sure if you’ve ever handled the layers in a panel before—I recently took apart some from Borken screens because those diffusion layers create excellent lighting effects. There’s a YouTube video explaining how they replicate the same daylight diffusion, which is why I decided to experiment. Initially, when the layers are assembled, they tend to bond together due to strong adhesion.
