Hello everyone!
This is my first time joining the community, but I’m excited to dive into VR after spending a lot of time playing PC games. I have a solid PC and am unsure whether to choose a quest or a Rift S. I understand the quest library is smaller compared to what PC-powered VR offers, but I’m worried about not getting good performance from my current setup. I don’t want to upgrade my CPU or spend around 400 dollars on a VR headset. Would appreciate your suggestions. Here are my specs:
i5-6600k
Gtx 1070
16gb DDR4
512 SSD

I didn't explore wmr headsets since I used them on a 4670 and 1060. I recall Microsoft mentioning they might work with integrated graphics too.

Your equipment suits most titles well. Just ensure your CPU has a solid cooler if possible.
The choice really hinges on your gaming preferences.
Quest offers a fully wireless setup but is restricted by the mobile SOC and only available through the Oculus store.
It’s mainly suited for console VR.
The Rift S provides a wired experience, though it’s limited to more graphically intensive games, peripherals like racing wheels or flight controllers, or a broader game library not supported by multiple stores.
Each option has its strengths but isn’t a direct substitute for the other.
WMR works if you can afford it, especially with improved tracking thanks to the Rift S’s additional cameras, though it still relies on a capable video card for smooth performance.

As mentioned by another person, your specs are meeting the recommended and required standards for the Rift S:
https://www.oculus.com/rift-s/
If you want to confirm, I shared the Oculus site above, which details the specifications. I recently received a Rift S and have been enjoying it so far! While the Quest offers portability, my main drawbacks were limited playtime due to battery life, only 64 GB of storage (or 128 GB for $499) for downloading games (my internet is slow, which would be a problem), and less impressive graphics. Ultimately, it depends on your setup, but I believe the Rift S is a better choice if you have a PC to run it, which you do. Either way, have fun with VR!
