I own an HTC Vive and a friend has an Oculus Rift. If I were to purchase a VR headset today, I’d still choose the Vive, though the Rift remains solid and feels better in my hands than the Vive comes pre-installed. The Vive’s deluxe audio strap adds value, but the Rift’s controllers are impressive. Tracking is decent on the Rift despite its three sensors, and the price difference between the two models is significant—around $140 for the Vive and up to $240 if you include the strap.
