Occasionally the PC fails to boot, yet it launches after a power cycle.
About a month ago, my PC (i7 6700k, MSI z170a pro carbon, GTX 1070, cooler master v750, endeavour OS) began having occasional boot issues. After a cold start, it would briefly power on with fans spinning and lights flashing before shutting down again. Pressing the power button didn’t work, but after waiting a short time it would restart too. The only way to get it running was to turn off the PSU, wait 15–30 minutes, then try again. A related problem was that the S/PDIF port sometimes failed to recognize itself. I checked for bad capacitors and the PSU components, but everything looked normal. I removed unnecessary parts from the motherboard and the issue persisted. Based on my limited troubleshooting skills, it seems the PSU or motherboard might be faulty. Or is there something else I missed?
Ensure a minimal power consumption option exists in BIOS when the system is powered down. Check for ERP-related features and consider turning them off.
Updated PSU functions flawlessly. Compared the previous output and found 5V rail producing 8V. Recorded changes on September 17, 2022 by xXarons.
