We placed it on the sofa during installation, then when attempting to turn it on, it settled onto the ground Ram 1600mhz Corsair Vengeance.

If you weren't grounded (by wearing something like an anti-static wrist strap) you could have shorted a connection on your MB, but it is unlikely. Is your monitor connected to a GPU or directly to the MB? Also, are you able to isolate what could be causing it to not turn on "sometimes"?
