Occasionally my computer doesn't send posts.
Details: This setup includes the new MB/CPU combo over two years ago, along with an upgraded GPU, extra RAM, storage drives, a cooler, and a new DP cable. Despite these changes, the problem persisted. Occasionally, after a restart, everything functions perfectly. When it fails to boot, several patterns emerge: the orange LED stays on but won’t turn off until a forced restart, then disappears while fans spin at full speed, followed by white light turning on but no boot. The issue appears randomly and without a clear sequence. Most often, it happens after rebooting during an update or when powering on directly. The PSU is nearing the end of its lifespan (~5 years), though previous configurations worked fine. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows, re-seating the CPU, disabling hibernation, updating BIOS, and installing new ASUS drivers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Test it using one stick of RAM. Check if it boots consistently in this setup.
I checked your motherboard details and the orange LED indicates RAM activity. Have you attempted removing all components and replacing just one stick? Try this approach first. If the problem persists, disconnect the 24-pin and 8-pin power connectors from the motherboard and reinsert them. This may help identify a power-related fault before proceeding further.
Also, at this is a BOOT issue, Windows, Drivers etc will not help. Your troubleshooting will be around components working rather than software. Reseat RAM, CPU. Clear CMOS Remove and Reseat the GPU Remove any SSD's and HDD's and try to boot to BIOS. You wont to try and get to BIOS, you won't need storage to achieve this.
Thank you for your patience. I was occupied throughout the week and only managed a quick test now. Your feedback was very helpful! I attempted it with one stick of RAM, but the problem continues (tested with four separate sticks). I reset the CMOS, reconnected the power cables (ATX+CPU), reinserted the GPU, yet nothing resolves the issue. Recently, after putting the PC to sleep after being away, it shut down and restarted into a boot loop. The orange light appeared briefly before turning red for a split second, then back to orange, causing it to loop. Unplugging power didn’t help or force a shutdown; I had to reset the CMOS again. During cold starts, I noticed the orange light flickering for a moment, followed by full fan speed until I manually shut it down and rebooted. It then restarted in safe mode with the F1 menu to access BIOS. This occurs consistently whenever I cold start the PC. Once it’s back online on Windows, everything works smoothly—no BSODs or freezes. Appreciate your support!
It looks like the motherboard might be experiencing an issue. After updating the BIOS, it seems like a hardware fault. If you're up for it, you could attempt to bake the board to re-flow the solder. A fresh board should likely resolve the problem.
I've been considering this too, hoping someone would verify it's probably the board. The problem began after I purchased the mobo and cpu combo. Before searching for a replacement, could it actually be the CPU?
