Purchased a pre-assembled PC about a year ago. Right away, games would crash. Most were affected, though some ran perfectly. The ones that worked well had stable power usage. Examples: Rocket League, Diablo 2 remaster, Destiny 2. Games that kept crashing periodically: Tiny Tinas, Far Cry 5, Cyberpunk, Borderland 3, Planet Coaster. I’m new to PC but have looked into possible causes and tried upgrades. Current setup: MoBo-GPU Z590 UHD AC, NVidia GeForce 1660 Super, GSKill Trident 16GB RAM, Corsair RM650x power supply, Intel i7 11700K LGA1200 CPU. All drivers seem updated, and stress tests show components are fine. I even swapped my friend’s GPU with mine to check for issues, but the problem persists. I’m at the end of my options and need advice.

You may want to look up "Cyberpunk crashing" or similar terms online. There were recent problems with a game due to a missing DLL file, which seems to be a Windows-related issue rather than a driver.

I looked into specific game crash fixes, but nothing seems effective. It looks like a BIOS problem might be involved, since it appears frequently in searches. However, I’m not fully clear on BIOS updates and their risks if handled improperly.

It looks like I fixed the problem. It turns out I actually needed a BIOS update. I was worried about damaging my PC, but after taking the right steps, everything functioned perfectly.
