I have a Windows 10 computer where my internet connection sometimes stops working but comes back later. If I hit my router's IP address with a ping command, it usually works fine, but at times I get about seven or eight pings that fail and show an error like "transmit general failure." Since this doesn't keep happening all the time, is it possible this is just a problem with my network card instead of how my TCP/IP settings are set up?

What kind of connection are you using? Is it wired or wireless? Have your network drivers been updated? If it's wireless, how strong is the signal?

Thanks for getting back to me. This laptop is from Dell, it's wireless, and it uses an Intel Centrino 6200 adapter. The signal is pretty strong most of the time and things work fine, but sometimes WiFi goes down for a little while. If you leave Ping running, you get those errors I mentioned before. My other PC with the exact same card and drivers on the same network has never had problems. Is this just a glitch in the hardware? I want to try swapping out the WiFi card to see if that fixes it.

You might try a wireless USB stick so you don't have to take your laptop apart. I have been using the TPLink WN722 for this.

I'd probably swap out my Intel 7260 Half mini card. Usually, you can pry the bottom off the laptop with a few screws, or maybe even just slide it if it's a business model. It's super easy to reach and grab that card from there.

I agree with gggplaya if it's easy to swap just try a new card. Wifi cards seem pretty cheap. It depends on how hard you have to take the laptop apart. Some are super simple, others are huge headaches. Even though I doubt you'll find anything cool here, I'd check the event monitor. Maybe you get lucky and see an error saying why it's breaking. Maybe microsoft loaded a "better?" driver. You could try the newest chip from the vendor.
